When you blow out your birthday candles, you're supposed to make a wish. Well, I didn't have a cake or candles but I did have a wish! I really wanted to see Aurora Borealis (aka the northern lights) during my birthday trip. The opportunity to see this amazing display of lights in the night sky doesn't come up very often in northern Michigan, so although I wished I could capture it, I didn't know how likely that would be. It was on my birthday, at 1:19am, that I read a message from my friend. She wanted me to know that there was a good possibility to see the northern lights, starting at 1am. WHAT!?! I quickly got myself together and headed out to the location she told me would be best. When I saw my first capture, I cried. In fact, I cried a few times during the hour or so that I stood out there. What an amazing experience...and it happened on my birthday!
